We support indigenous youth
Our Services
What we do
We support indigenous youth to improve their lives through targeted support because the depend on ecosystems that are particularly vulnerable to climate change and extreme weather events such as dry spells, droughts and floods.
Many indigenous young people live in poverty and they face economic, social and environmental challenges – from climate change and food insecurity, to inequality, conflict and lack of access to resources. For many, agriculture offers the only viable route out. The Volta Young Farmers Association (VYFA) adopts a three-pronged approach to supporting indigenous youth:
01 CAPACITY DEVELOPMENT
We train and empower the next generation of entrepreneurial young women and men in sustainable agricultural practices that responds to climate change, the environment and agro-ecology in communities where they live
02 VALUE CHAIN DEVELOPMENT
We support the development of viable livestock, crop and aquaculture enterprises in rural areas. Key crop value chains we support include maize, soy beans, cassava, ground nuts and sweet potatoes. For the livestock sector, we support poultry and small ruminants such as the West African Dwarf Goats.
03 RURAL EMPLOYMENT CREATION
Through our various interventions, we catalyze the provision of employment opportunities in the rural areas especially for the youth.
04 Promotion of Climate Smart Agricultural Technologies
We promote technologies that integrate methods designed to sustainably increase productivity and enhance resilience. Such technologies include; Water Management Technologies: These include irrigation systems (drip/sprinkler) that ensure efficient water use, reducing waste and mitigating drought impacts. Improved Crop Varieties: Adoption of climate-resilient, drought-tolerant, and pest-resistant seeds that maintain yield stability in variable weather conditions. Agroforestry & Livestock Management: Integrating trees with crops (agroforestry) improves land resilience, while improved livestock management
Vision
Where we work
